Blinksale review

Blinksale

Blinksale

Probably the most well-known name amongst the 7 finalists, Blinksale has a clean interface, is simple to use and competitively priced.  Unfortunately, despite scoring 78% against our requirements, it just doesn’t have the features we need – and can get elsewhere:

  1. No expense management – Despite the appearance of the Purchases tab above, this only enables the tracking of other Blinksale invoices received from other Blinksale users.  A nice feature if you only ever have clients using Blinksale to issue their invoices – but close to useless for us.
  2. No payment gateways – PayPal is the only option and, for the same reasons cited when reviewing Zoho and Acuinvoice, PayPal isn’t a viable payment gateway for our use.
  3. No import/export – Not strictly true because Blinksale does have an API to 37 Signals Basecamp application – it’s just that we don’t use it – so it’s of no value to us.

Conclusion

Despite being the heavyweight in terms of brand recognition, Blinksale was another early casualty for us because of the three points noted above.

  1. Just thought I’d drop a note about a side kick app I am in the midst of developing for Blinksale that allows you to use 3rd party payment gateways… check it out at: http://www.chargd.com/
